Valerie Kaye Salley

October 10, 1962 — June 12, 2026

Little Rock

Valerie Kaye Salley, affectionately known as "Val Stem," a term coined by her late brother Sheldon “Teet” Salley. She departed this life on June 12, 2026. She was born on October 10, 1962, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Levi and Ruthie Salley, both of whom preceded her in death.

Valerie was a loving mother, devoted sister, cherished friend, and faithful believer. She leaves behind two beloved sons, Damien (Melissa) Hayes of Temple, Texas, and Carlos (Jone) Hayes of McDonough, Georgia, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren who will forever treasure her love, guidance, and unwavering support. She was preceded in death by her younger son, Ricky Hayes, whom she loved dearly.

She is also survived by six siblings: Linda Perry, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Bryan Salley (Tracey) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Sheila Campbell (Marc) of San Antonio, Texas; Paula Collier of Los Angeles, California; Tammy Jones of Gonzales, Louisiana; and Angela Salley of Little Rock, Arkansas. Valerie was preceded in death by her four brothers, Levi Salley, Sheldon “Teet” Salley, Anthony Salley, and Damon Salley.

As a single mother, Valerie courageously relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she raised her children while pursuing higher education. Through determination and perseverance, she earned an associate degree in Sociology, demonstrating her commitment to personal growth and learning.

Valerie brought joy wherever she went. Her vibrant personality, warm smile, and loving spirit made her a joy to be around. She loved music, singing, and dancing, and whenever the music was played, she was often the first on the dance floor. Her signature move—a graceful spin followed by a high kick—became her trademark and brought joy to everyone watching. She loved fashion and was meticulous about her attire, ensuring that everything matched perfectly.

Valerie also expressed her love through hospitality. She enjoyed preparing large meals and sharing them with family, friends, and neighbors. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and generosity, reflecting the kindness that defined her life.

A woman of deep faith, Valerie loved the Lord and cherished His Word. Like her mother, Ruthie, Valerie had a passion for learning new words and expanding her knowledge. This love of language inspired her to study and memorize Scripture, often quoting Bible verses verbatim and encouraging others through God's promises.

Valerie's life was a testimony of resilience, faith, love, and generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives in the lives she touched, the family she loved, and the faith she faithfully embraced.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." — Psalm 116:15

Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
