Myra Diane Akins Murray was born on October 5, 1950, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to devoted parents Alice Lavezzary- Akins and Ira Akins Sr. Like all of his daughters, Myra held a special place in her father’s heart - she was truly a daddy’s girl. From a young age, it was clear that Myra possessed a special grace - a stylish, poised young girl who grew into a beautiful woman known for her quiet strength, elegance, and enduring compassion. She faced life with more resilience than many ever knew, moving through this world with quiet courage, deep purpose, and a heart full of love.
Myra was baptized at an early age at Mt. Nebo African Methodist Episcopal Church. Her faith would remain a steady guide throughout her life. No matter where she lived - from state to state as a military wife - she always found a church home. Her spiritual foundation shaped the way she loved, served, and gave so freely to others.
On July 10, 1971, Myra united in matrimony to Don Murray. She was a loyal and faithful wife. To this union, two sons were born: Don Eric and Mario Frazier. Myra’s greatest joy came from her only grandchild, Justin Frazier, who brought light and laughter into her life. She loved spending time with him, treasuring every moment.
Though she didn’t have daughters of her own, Myra’s nurturing spirit extended fully to her nieces, and even raised one of her sisters as her own, Latonia Maria Akins. She loved them dearly, often brushing and pressing their hair, sharing their life, and checking in just to see how they were doing. To her nieces, nephews, and their children, she was more than an aunt - she was a light in their lives.
Myra retired from the State of Arkansas after a dedicated career. After graduating from Sweet Home High School, she attended Shorter College (AR), Vocational Tech School (OK) and obtained a certificate in Interior Decorating.
On July 7, 2025, Myra transitioned peacefully into eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents; Alice and Ira Akins Sr., and siblings; Jackie Porter, Franklin Porter, Dorothy Coleman, Julia Kelley, Ira Akins Jr., Marilyn Sue Akins, and Sara LaShawn Akins.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, grace, and quiet strength. Myra is survived by her husband, Don Murray; her sons, Don Eric Murray and Mario Frazier Murray; and her cherished grandson, Justin Frazier Murray. She is also survived by her siblings; Carolyn Croom, Gloria Hall (Knoxie Jr), Carl Akins (Beryl), Evelyn Akins, Alicia Hodge, Terri Kawee (Kawiim), Ronald Akins (Vassie), and Latonia Owens. Myra also leaves a host of extended family members including special nieces; Lovita Griffin, Kristie Croom, Chantee Robinson and Sharon Porter - all of whom were deeply touched by her enduring love.
