Marilyn Woods peacefully entered eternal rest on July 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the grace of a life richly lived. Born on February 3, 1955, in Wilmot, Arkansas, to Freddie Williams and Louella Woods, Marilyn grew up with a vibrant spirit, a sharp mind, and a deep determination to make a meaningful impact on the world around her.

A Journey of Excellence and Service

Marilyn’s lifelong dedication to achievement began early. After graduating from Wilmot High School, she pursued a higher education at Northeast Louisiana University (University of Monroe Louisiana). Demonstrating an extraordinary work ethic and brilliant mind, she accomplished what few could: earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees within just four years.

That same passion for excellence defined her long and impactful career. Marilyn devoted her professional life to helping others, working tirelessly to ensure that individuals with disabilities received the Social Security and disability benefits they needed and deserved. Where others saw red tape and difficult administrative hurdles, Marilyn saw people who simply needed someone to fight in their corner. She brought hope into moments of uncertainty, using her education, patience, and persistent spirit to secure the support her clients depended on. Her work was never just a job it was a personal calling rooted in deep empathy, active service, and a life dedicated to lifting up those who needed a voice. With a Master’s degree in hand and a heart for service, she navigated complex systems on behalf of vulnerable families, ensuring they were treated with respect and equity. Her career was much more than a profession, it was a lifelong ministry of advocacy, empathy, and unwavering commitment to those who needed a voice.

A Passion for Life and Sports

Beyond her professional achievements, Marilyn possessed a dynamic energy and a love for athletics. In her university days, she was a standout on the high school basketball court, bringing speed, strategy, and heart to every game. Later in life, she channelled her competitive spirit and passion into bowling, rising through the ranks to compete as a semi-professional bowler. Whether on the court or in the bowling alley, Marilyn’s energy and camaraderie left a lasting impression on everyone who played alongside her.

A Cherished Family Legacy

Above all her accomplishments, Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose wisdom, humour, and unconditional love were the foundation of her home. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Louella Woods, and her loving sister, Patricia Woods. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: Her Beloved Sons: Kenneth Lindsey, Korell Lindsey five treasured grandchildren who brought immense pride and light to her life. One cherished great-granddaughter, who carries forward her legacy into the future.

Brothers: Lorenzo Woods (Doris), Leo Woods, Kenneth Woods (Rose), and Freddie Williams Jr. Sisters: Rosie Marie Woods, Alecia Versy-Williams (Daryl), Doris Bonner, and Carol Nelson (and husband. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former colleagues, teammates, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and strength.
