There are lives that pass quietly, and then there are lives that redefine the room the moment they enter. James Lee “Skinny” Shaw Sr. lived the latter boldly, gracefully, unapologetically. He carried a presence that was equal parts charisma and conviction. Whether it was in the way he dressed; sharp, timeless, effortlessly stylish or in the way he made people feel seen, heard, and valued. James embodied the essence of living well.
James Lee “Skinny” Shaw Sr. born on June 21, 1939, in Little Rock, Arkansas was sent to his eternal home on September 4, 2025. James was the beloved son of the late Willie Mae Louden and Robert Shaw Sr., whose guidance and grace paved the way for the person he became. He is preceded in death by his youngest son, James L. Shaw Jr., Brothers, Robert Shaw Jr., Willie “BJ” Green Jr. step-grandson; Ca’Darell Washington. A storyteller and a trailblazer who made their mark not only through hard work, but through passion. James navigated the world with equal doses of ambition and authenticity, reminding us that success means little if it isn’t shared with the people who matters most.
Skinny retired as a Mechanical Systems Operator at SIEMENS with 40 Years of service. A man of unwavering faith, James walked with God every day of his life not just on Sundays, but in every word he spoke and every soul he touched. He was a pillar and active member of New Hope Baptist Church. A mentor to many, and a quiet rock for his family.
James is survived by his loving children, Anthony Shaw (Carolyn) and Latonja Shaw, grandchildren Zykeia, Darrian, Tiamoya, D’anthony, Alfonzo, great-grandchildren Kash, Milani, Tamari, sisters Charlene Moore (Victor), Brenda Young (David Sr.), Linda Alexander, special friend Carolyn Barge (Zavi), step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James was affectionately known as a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith for God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. For friends, family, and everyone lucky enough to cross paths, James leaves behind more than memories.
He leaves a blueprint for living with purpose. From late-night conversations over good food and laughter, to the countless acts of generosity too often left unsaid, James’s legacy is stitched into the lives of those who loved him. Beyond the titles and achievements, it was the little things that really made folks take notice — the sharp suits that always matched just right, the hats with just the right tilt, the smooth cologne that lingered in a room, the fresh stylish shoes, and that unforgettable smile cruising in his spotless, shiny Escalade. James didn’t just walk in — he arrived! There was an ease to his confidence, a rhythm in his step, and a presence you felt before he even said a word. To know Skinny was to know a man who could turn an ordinary day into something special — just by being himself. He will truly be missed.
