It is with great joy and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Henri Jean Crofton Carey. Henri Jean was born on February 6, 1935, in Searcy, Arkansas and departed this life on May 10, 2025.
Henri Jean was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School and was a longtime member of the National Dunbar Alumni Association. She looked forward to the school reunions and seeing her fellow classmates. Henri Jean obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas Baptist College and furthered her education by obtaining a master's in counseling psychology from the University of Central Arkansas. She was one of the first black graduates in the master’s program. She was also a licensed psychological examiner.
Henri Jean was a phenomenal woman. She was fiercely loyal to friends and family. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was strong willed but had a boundless heart and a sharp sense of humor. Henri Jean was remarkably intelligent, detailed oriented and had a remarkable memory. Her passion for life was indoctrinated into her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong Baptist and was a faithful member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock.
Henri Jean is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Bobby Carey, her daughters, Patrice Lynne Carey, Gina Elaine LeSueur, and her son, Damon (Ajeenah) Carey, her sister, Patty Braxton, her brothers, Filton (Carolyn) Crumpton and Thurston Crumpton (Terri), and nieces and nephews.
