Flossie Mae Dumas

Flossie Mae McFadden-Dumas, a seeker of God’s Word and an avid church attendance enthusiast, inspired both the able bodied and the disabled. Her life’s testimony and legacy echoes, “Come to the house of God regularly as long as you can. God is faithful! So strive to honor Him with your presence and obedience, because He will take care of you.” On June 4, 1939, Flossie was born the sixth of ten children to Louis and Daisy McFadden, both of whom preceded her in death. Flossie was also preceded in death by 15 siblings. She was raised and attended school in the areas of Wabbaseka and Altheimer, Arkansas.

As destiny would have it, Flossie relocated with her family and lived in the Jacksonville, Sweet Home, and Little Rock areas in Arkansas. She began her own family and became the mother of eight children. She often spoke of her two children she miscarried and missing her two sons, Kenneth and Lawrence who preceded her in death. As her faith in God and knowledge increased, Flossie united in fellowship with the Apostolic ministry and became a born-again, Holy Ghost filled, and a water baptized believer in the name of Jesus Christ for over 50 years. Life’s roads allowed her to live in Kansas City, Kansas for about 10 years before she returned to Little Rock and united in marriage with James Dumas, Sr., in 2005. They remained faithful to God and each other until death parted them on February 29, 2012.

Mother Dumas often gratefully and gracefully spoke of her church family and the support she received from God through them over the years, being a single mother trying to raise 8 children. Her mother and stepfather, Daisy and Willie Jones were an immense source of support to her as well. She had quite a few fond memories of how God extended His Grace to her, but one of her fondest memories was of Charles and Tina Hardy befriending her about 45 years ago. She recalled having a desire to attend a sanctified church. As destiny would have it, one weekday service evening at Greater Christ Temple, God sent Charles, Tina, and Charles, Jr., by in a Volkswagen Bug as she was walking down the street with about five of her children. They stopped and she got a chance to ask them where they attended church. From that encounter, she and all her children began attending church regularly at Greater Christ Temple transported in their Volkswagen. She never forgot their labor of love; To God be the Glory!

Mother Dumas attended Sunday School faithfully, was part of the Missionary Department and the Mother’s Board at Greater Christ Temple. When she wasn’t here, she was missed and she missed being in service. As her health declined, she couldn’t remain active as she desired. We would often remind her that she was still testifying loud and clear from her wheelchair or hospital bed that she knew God was the source of all her help.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her Kingdom family; sibling, Donald McFadden; children, Linda Canada, Larry (Janice) Cumbie, James (Diann) Woods, Jacquelyn Lightner, Bennie Parker, and Clifton Parker; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
