Clara Mayetrist Sanders, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, was born on December 21, 1945, in Earle, Arkansas, to the late Taft and Hattie Sanders. Raised in the warmth of family and the foundation of faith, Clara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age—a commitment that guided her life with purpose, humility, and grace.
Clara graduated from Dunbar High School in 1964 and later continued her education at Arkansas AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). After completing her education, she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she established her adult life and built a long and dedicated professional career.
While living in Chicago, Clara was employed with Bankers’ Life and Casualty Insurance Company for 35 years. She was widely respected for her professionalism, loyalty, and strong work ethic, earning the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Following her retirement, Clara returned home to Arkansas, embracing a season of peace, family, and reflection. Her return marked a meaningful homecoming—back to familiar places, lifelong connections, and the roots that had always grounded her.
Clara’s life was marked by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. She carried herself with quiet strength and dignity, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. Her faith was the cornerstone of her journey, reflected in the way she lived, loved, and served others.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, Clara peacefully laid down her earthly burdens and received her eternal reward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Taft and Hattie Sanders; her siblings, Taft Sanders Jr., Sarah Sanders, Jerry Sanders, Lillie Bell Sanders, and Willie Bell Sanders; her nephews, Ozean Sanders, Jr., and DeMar C. Sanders; and her great-nephew, Zechariah Sanders.
She leaves to cherish her memory one child, Carthell L. Sanders (Renee); her siblings, Ozean Sanders, Arthur Sanders (Betty), Jessie Sanders (Barbara), Contha L. West (Yvone), and Willie C. Sanders; her beloved grandchildren, Carthell T. Sanders and T’reva Laws; her great-grandchild, Aiden Spearman; and her godchildren, Shamonica L. West and Dr. Yvone L. West. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and a community forever touched by her gentle spirit.
Clara will be remembered for her warm smile, steadfast faith, and unwavering strength through both joyful and challenging seasons of life. Her legacy of faith, family, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
